During the attacks, Sandeep’s mother, Dhanalakshmi, was at home in Bangalore, praying for the successful conclusion of the operation. The family had recently relocated to Bangalore, and Sandeep, in his selfless dedication, had not disclosed his upcoming holiday plans to his father, K Unnikrishnan, a senior ISRO official turned Indian Army officer.
Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s commitment to the nation and its citizens was evident throughout the attack, as he continued to fight against the terrorists even after sustaining mortal wounds. His bravery extended to arranging the evacuation of commando Sunil Kumar Jodha, who, despite being injured, managed to survive seven bullets, one piercing his bullet-proof jacket.
