Bend It Like Beckham
A 2002 sports comedy-drama with Chadha, Paul Mayeda Berges, and Guljit Bindra script, Bend It Like Beckham, is directed by Gurinder Chadha. Bend It Like Beckham Plot
As an Indian family in London struggles to raise their soccer-playing daughter according to tradition, a kaleidoscope of color and culture clash amusingly. Jess’s dream is to play professional soccer like her hero David Beckham, unlike her snarky older sister Pinky. The latter is getting ready for an Indian wedding and a lifetime of perfecting the perfect chapati. Initially vehemently opposed to Jess’s unconventional desire, her parents finally admit that their concerns are more about keeping her safe than holding her back. Jess’ family must decide whether to allow her to pursue her goal and a soccer ball as she is forced to choose between tradition and her beloved sport.
